See what I mean in my first post? It’s already setting in, I’m getting too lazy to write already. Now before I run after something shiny I have to express my overjoyded-ness at getting a newsletter mail from a certain band in my inbox. Not about Guano Apes itself of course, they quit and such… But Sandra is FINALLY letting us hear songs from her upcoming solo album.
It’ll be out on the 7th of September according to some random site… Which just happens to be the day I met my boyfriend in 2005 too. Is this a sign? Yes, yes it is. (I promise I’ll order it instead of camping in front of the record store dear :P.)
I haven’t been this excited about an upcoming album since… Walking on a Thin Line. Four years ago! ^^ It’s not that I think there’s nothing better or just as good at Guano Apes, but I have a history with this band… I grew up with them, they’re the reason I’m NOT listening to Britney Spears and every other blond alchoholic disaster running around blurting out songs. And the reason I like rock music, weird lyrics and indie music. Even part of the reason I like electro, though that’s Daft Punk’s fault too.
They had everything I wanted to hear at the time and still do. A capable singer who can switch from practically screaming to calm and feminine in the same song, three great musicians who blend the sounds of their instruments together so well it’s near-perfect yet still rocks, freaky weird lyrics without losing their message, great rythm, a key element in my opinion and songs for every mood you can think of. And they evolved. You can easily hear the difference between Proud Like a God, Don’t Give Me Names and Walking on a Thin Line. They experimented with other genres without tainting their music like I hear so much bands do now, and they always remained the same despite changing. I’m talking about music, yes, not a religion. >.>
And they manage to keep being awesome when playing live too! I’ll NEVER forget the one concert I managed to be at, even though it was a festival and I was being crushed in the crowd as I was tiny and hadn’t been to a single concert up until then. And to think I didn’t even like them when I first heard them… My brother made me listen to Open Your Eyes (ironically one of the few Guano Apes songs he likes) and I hated it at first. I’m glad I started liking them pretty quick after that. ^^ They were a big part of my life for years, and I made a lot of friends because of them. After they quit they left quite a gaping hole behind because of that, so I’m glad Sandra still sounds like her old self, yet new and improved.
Makes me feel like a tiny barely 17-year-old girl dancing around screaming my head off while singing along… >.>
That’s a good thing, right? (Hell yes!)
(Eek, forgot the link!)
I should also mention Io, the band Dennis, Henning and Stude started with Charles Simmons… But I don’t like the singer much. >.> He sounds more girly than Sandra to be honest… But they do have some ok songs.
I read some of the posts and I think it is a great place! I like to show off my important logic I have a nice joke for you) What do you call four bull fighters in quicksand? Quatro sinko.
